In high school, I used to play hooky to go read Science Fiction Analog and Asimov’s SF. I was impressed with the quirky visions that the many excellent authors had and decided (someday) to do the same. Twenty years later, I have experience from the Army, Taxi driving, Real Estate, Stock Trading, and Insurance Adjusting. I have a university degree, but I’m not an academic like many science fiction authors – I’m a businessman who’s seen 50 States and 10 foreign countries and is always learning and extrapolating where this world is going…hence these stories.
I’ve written one story so far, “The Girl with the Magenta Hair,” which is about how the law will deal with technology that is just over the horizon.
If there is one commonality of my stories, current and planned, it’s to show how people of the future will react to technology, and especially ethics and the law. This is in the long tradition of classic writers like Robert Heinlein. I’m not interested in showcasing “gee whiz” technology; I’m interested in showing the people front stage (and the gee whiz stuff firmly in the background).
